I've really attempted to take good care of my 5MP CD - recording camera, as the picture quality is excellent, and having the CD's as "archive" of the conditions I've recorded provide a good  protection from future product liability claims. Wink

Recently, the camera began demonstrating a processing or sensor flaw.    :-/ Items which are brightly lit or reflective will have a [glb]bright green [/glb]saturated outline around them.

Unfortunately, Cry Sony discontinued this series of camera:
I think they would far rather sell proprietory memory sticks,   Huh

Oh well, any ideas??

Hi Blathsnocker, that's got to be frustrating. Can you include a small example shot for us to view? What is the model number of your camera? Sony support may have an explanation.

First of all, my apologies for my late response.

Also, my mis-spelling of "Sony"  Roll Eyes

The "Mavica" is the latest edition, a 5.4 MPxl (if I recall) that records to a cd.

Cutting to the chase, some good news.

Wandering about on the internet I discovered that there is a "recall" on many varieties of Sony devices which use charge coupled devices  in their innards:

this arising as a result of a successful "class action suit" filed (if I recall) in San diego,

As it turns out, the "false color"  artifact is one of several symptoms of  a failed CCD: another is a "garbled image" upon start-up.

At the Sony website there is an 800 number to call.  The phone is answered  quickly, the transactiion is professional, and they provide a print-out mailing slip for return of the camera.  Further, the fix is accomplished in  record time, and the device will be back in your hands within 10 days.

In my case,  I was somewhat despondent about the camera's initial failure, as I suspected a "fix" would be as expensive as another new camera, or approximately so:

and

1.  The quality of the pictures taken by this camera exceed most digital cameras with which I am familiar:
and,

2.  The CD storage (instead of memory chips) provides a non-volatile indexable archive:
and,

3.  The ability to fill up cd after cd on a long trip in the boonies could be equalled in "chips"  only at significant expense.....

===============

Thus, Sony's having dropped this camera from it's future mfg. plans is a bummer :

But Sony's professional and responsive "fix" to the camera  is as good an outcome as can be expected in a situation like this.

===================
