I just purchased a Canon A620 and need additional instruction (over the manuals) for macro photography with it. I've never shot macro with any camera before. Thanks  odha

Hi there and welcome!

You have a very fine camera there.

Here's an article that should get you on your way into macro photography:

Some of the most important things to remember are:

-  switch your camera to Macro mode and shoot within the recommended range as outlined in the manual

- shoot at the widest angle, rather than zoomed in

- for best results, use a tripod

- if you're try to shoot from an unusual angle, use the twist and tilt LCD

It would also be helpful if you know something about Depth of Field. Shallow depth of field is often desirable in a macro shot, where the main subject is sharp and the background is out of focus. The degree of depth of field is controlled by the aperture.

When you're ready, use aperture priority mode to get the desired DOF:

Try some of these techniques and let us know how it goes. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.
