Hi all. Just got a Nikon D50 the other day.  Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I gotta ask.
Camera set up with a Tamron 70-300mm Macro-Zoom. While trying to take a picture of my dog sitting next to me, the camera would not take a picture.  Shutter button would not go down all the way.  I tried to figure this out in case I didn't set it up right and tried the macro mode.  It worked then.  Can I take it that this camera (or all D-SLR camera's) Will not let you take a picture if the subject is too close?  Won't focus right?  Thats the only thing I can think of.

Hi marmaduke,

I don't know about the D50 but when I'm in autofocus mode and I'm too close to the subject my camera can't focus lock and therefore I can't shoot. If I put it in manual mode or set up with a macro lens (in auto and assuming I'm not still too close  Wink I can shoot. Manual mode doesn't care if you're in focus...

What's the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underpants if nobody ever asks to see 'em?
