Focus-Lock
The TZ3 doesn’t have AE/AF Lock. However focus can be locked independently using the Underwater Scene Mode. Change red and blue levels with the white balance fine adjustment (manual pg. 50) if needed.
High Angle LCD Mode
Effective for viewing a scene when holding the camera high above your head. Turn the camera upside down, and you have improved low angle viewing. The image reorients itself, so you’re not looking at it upside-down.
Intermediate ISO settings
When set to Auto ISO or Intelligent ISO, the TZ3 can select intermediate ISO settings (125, 160, 250, 320) not available from the menu. The camera seems to do a good job at selecting lower numbers.
Using the TZ3 Flash*
- To help prevent under exposure - manually increase the ISO rather than rely on auto ISO; also use Exposure Compensation to the plus side.
- To help prevent over exposure - use “Baby” scene mode! Baby mode uses a weaker flash output. It helps prevent over exposure and is sometimes more effective than using the standard flash mode; also use Exposure Compensation to the plus side.
- The flash will recycle almost instantaneously using a TZ3 AC Adapter, which can be purchased separately.
*Staying within the minimum - maximum flash range for each focal length helps ensure getting better flash photos (but don’t expect too much from a tiny built-in flash)
Reviewing and deleting images quickly
You don’t have to switch to the Play menu to review or delete images from a memory card.
To review images - In RECORD mode, click the REV button (Down Arrow). Use the Right and Left Arrows to scroll through photos.
To delete a single image press the Trash Can icon and then YES. Or press the Trash Can button again to delete mutiple, or ALL, images.

TZ3 Wrist Strap
The strap on the TZ3 is too long. Tie a knot near the end so the strap is loose enough to handle the camera but tight enough so it won’t slip off your wrist.
Other TZ3 Tips
- Scene modes and ISO - watch the ISO setting when using scene modes. They may select a high ISO number even in good light.
- You can not set Auto Review if Auto Bracket, Burst Mode or a few other camera modes are selected (page 89 in the manual).
- Power Save - if your camera is set to one of the two Economy Modes, you can not access the Power Save feature.
- To prevent an orange cast to photos when shooting inside in low light, you may have to use Manual White Balance instead of Tungsten.
