I have a Panasonic FZ18 that I would like to try the digital zoom – but it seems to be locked in the OFF function. I have tried to follow the manual bit I must be missing something. Any help would be appreciated. Love the camera.
Ken, first, check the menu to see if the digital zoom in enabled. It can be shut on and off.
The digital zoom will be temporarily disabled under the following circumstances:
– When the quality is set to [RAW] or [RAWiJPEG]
- When using the following modes:
– In intelligent auto mode
– In both portrait modes
– In all three sports modes
– In [HIGH SENS.], [BABY1/2] and [PET] modes
– When INTELLIGENT ISO is on
See pages 31 – 32 in the FZ18 manual. If you can’t find the setting that may be causing the problem, reset the camera.
Please read the information of Extended Optical Zoom. It should give you somewhat better quality than the digital zoom, however images must be shot at a reduced resolution.
Take a few test photo. Make sure you can live with the reduced image quality that these zooms may produce.
