Firmware update 1.0.9

Posted by | 13 Comments ..

If your XSi/450D has firmware update to Version 1.0.4, consider updating it to Version 1.0.9. The firmware fixes the following phenomenon:

  • one in which Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) shooting does not operate normally under specific conditions.
  • one in which the Live View exposure simulation warning indication does not properly display during Live View shooting.
  • one in which images cannot be played back after continuous shooting when a printer is connected to the camera or a video output terminal is used.

When updating the firmware, be sure to carefully follow Canon’s instructions. They point out that a power failure during the firmware writing operation could disable the camera.

Canon advises that you use a fully charged battery pack or optional dedicated AC Adapter Kit for the update.

They also advise that you do NOT shut off the power, open the card slot cover or press any camera buttons during the firmware writing operation.

The update and full instructions can be downloaded at Canon’s website.

Fiaz, it doesn’t appear to be available at the Canon site. Try searching the Canon Firmware section of the SoftPedia site. If they don’t have it, call Canon tech support.

Fiaz, I am also unable to find it. As previously suggested, contact Canon tech support and they will most likely be able to provide you with a link to download the firmware.

Fiaz, I’m surprised Canon can’t provide you with an older version of the firmware. As a last ditch effort, post an inquiry at this Canon forum. Someone there might know.

It’s the 1.1.0 version though..with added Speedlite support. Think that’s the only difference between 1.0.9 and 1.1.0

Balders, yes, thank you for sharing the information about the firmware update!

Well i need the older version of firmware, as my lens is no longer compatible with my camera. This problem occured directly after i updated my cameras firmware.

    Hi Fiaz

    That’s really strange.

From what I can gather…cameras shipped with firmware 1.04. There were no other versions released until 1.09, then the 1.1.0 which only added the 270(?) Speedlite support. Whilst there may be unpublished code changes in the 1.0.9 version, there were officially 3 fixed included, listed in the site above under ‘Version 1.0.9 changes:’

    Nothing to do with lenses.

I’m no expert I promise, but I had a lens with sometimes generated an error “Cannot communicate with Lens (?) ” or something like that and then locked the camera up. I thought it was just incompatible, but it turned out that all that was needed was to clean the contacts with some alcohol. It’s working a treat at the mo!

    hi everyone,

when you shut down the camera while still having a firmware update, what exactly will happen? Is it going to be completely broken or what?

  • On 3 October 2011 at 8:05 pm Gail Bjork (author) said:

Ris, you should never shut down the camera when it’s processing or transferring photos, or during a firmware update. If you’re having problems after a firmware update you should call tech support for your model. As the article states “a power failure during the firmware writing operation could disable the camera.”
