Canon S2 likes and dislikes

There is a lot to like about the Canon S2:

  • Impressive feature set!
  • Excellent image quality at ISO 50; near-excellent at ISO 100
  • Fast start-up, focus and write time; no discernible shutter lag
  • Fast, easy access to all major settings without having to go through a myriad of camera menus; some key feature settings are accessible from a button on the camera body.
  • Can use the flash for each of up to 10 shots when using the self-timer. No running back and forth to trigger the shutter for each photo.
  • Custom mode - to save favorite user settings
  • Both viewfinder & LCD show 100% of a scene
  • AF Frame Selector button & Focus lock using the M (manual) button
  • Twist and turn LCD - ideal for macros, taking photos at difficult angles and shooting video
  • Flash works with Continuous Mode, though slow

What I dislike about the Canon S2:

  • Unsightly noise at ISO 400; par for the course
  • Lens cap! Easily falls off lens. Others have said this solution works: rub the inside lining with a metal emery board or the edge of a knife to roughen up the surface of the felt. I solved the problem by buying a Lensmate adapter and lens cap. Works great….and the cap stays on, even with a filter.
