Canon S2 IS issues

Focus

With all the initial hoopla over the poor focusing abilities of the S2, I’ve devoted an entire section to S2 focusing.

Video

When shooting video in a very quiet environment, the hum and click of the zoom motor is recorded and can be quite annoying to hear during playback. However, if there is background noise while shooting, you can’t hear the sound of the zoom motor. The clicking sound can be heard, but it is not as pronounced.

You may hear a vibrating noise in video playback if the microphone audio was set between level 3 to 5 during recording.

Image Noise

More acceptable at ISO 200 than other cameras I’ve owned prior to this time. ISO 400: Yuck!

Red-eye

Less than any camera I’ve owned, though far from perfect.

E-18 Error

A few report that the lens on the S2 may fail to retract and the camera locks. Here’s how some users fix the problem; try at your own risk. Better to contact Canon support.

Colors

Purple colors looks blue - Some deep shades of purple colors turn blue in S2 photos. Adjust the white balance settings and watch the LCD for color accuracy.
