Overall impressions

In April 2006, I bought a Canon Powershot SD700 (also called Digital IXUS 800). It is my carry-at-all-times camera.

This 5.8 ounce, 6 megapixel little wonder has a 4x image-stabilized optical zoom, 2.5" LCD display, 16:9 widescreen for images and videos, and 16 unique scene modes. It also has sensitivity up to ISO 800 and a 30fps VGA movie mode.

SD700 rated the best digital camera

The SD700 is rated the Best Digicam in the November 2006, issue of the respected Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine. Though not a photography magazine, it covers a broad range of subjects of interest to consumers. They opine that the SD700 is point-and-shoot camera that "can't (be) beat."

When the SD700 first came out it cost $499 U.S. At today's prices, if you can still get one, the SD700 is a real bargin for anyone looking for a top-notch, ultra compact, point-and-shoot.
