Likes & dislikes

What I like about the Canon XSi/450D

  • Outstanding image quality.
  • Impressive exposure metering.
  • Fast and responsive.
  • Excellent high ISO performance; eye-popping for those of us who only used compact digital cameras before buying the XSi.
  • Bright viewfinder and large three-inch LCD. LCD information is easy to read except in very bright light.
  • Proximity sensor - automatically shuts off the LCD when the camera is raised to your eye
  • Almost all camera features a photographer needs to access while taking photos have a dedicated button; most buttons are well placed.
  • Well-thought out menu system.
  • Image stabilzed kit lens produces images that are much better than expected, especially considering the low price (about $100.00 U.S. when purchased with the body). The reasonably priced Canon 55-250mm IS lens is also a winner.
  • Good ergonomics

What I dislike about the Canon XSi/450D

  • Expensive compared to other entry level DSLRs (with the introduction of the XS/1000D after the XSi/450D, the XSi is no longer considered entry level).
  • Learning how to get correct flash exposure can be challenging in Creative Zone.
  • Flash needs to be raised for auto focus assist.
  • ISO button a bit awkward to access without taking your eye away from  the viewfinder.
  • Live View primarily useful only for shots using a camera support.
  • LCD monitor should come with an anti-glare coating.
  • Wish the camera and lenses were even lighter.
  • Price of battery, should you want an extra one, is expensive.
