Likes & dislikes

What I like about the F20

  • Incredible low light/high ISO performance [More info].
  • Some of the most accurate color I've seen in good and available light.
  • F-button - though I wish Exposure Compensation was accessible from it.
  • Very good flash, including fill-flash.
  • First digital camera that I'm not afraid to keep on Auto ISO, though see below.*
  • Picture Stabilization (Anti-blur) button - raises the ISO to increase shutter speed; not optical image stabilization

What I dislike about the F20

I knew about several of these dislikes before buying the camera. But I set them aside because of its great low light performance...and low price.

  • Battery charging method - the battery is charged in the camera via an AC Power Adapter. Fortunately, you get a decent number of shots on a battery charge. When needed, you can shoot inside using the adapter instead of a battery.
  • * No Auto ISO 800 like some of it's siblings. It only has Auto ISO 400 and 1600. [Related comments]
  • No indication of what ISO is chosen before taking a photo when the camera is set to Auto ISO.
  • No viewfinder
  • Ho-hum LCD may not be visable at all in bright light. An anti-glare screen protector helps a bit. I use those made by Boxwave
  • No optical image stabilization.
  • Some of the set-up menus seem misplaced.
  • Image Display - can't turn off the picture review feature.
  • Camera manual has no index.
  • Read and write time of xD memory card too slow
  • Did I mention the battery charger?!
