F20 ~ overall impressions

I bought a  Fujifilm F20 digital camera while there are still new ones available. Other photo enthusiasts are scurrying to buy it, or one of it's siblings, too.

So what's so special about this inexpensive, unassuming compact camera that has been on the market for more than a year?

The F20 has a six megapixel Super CCD, a sensor that excels at producing low noise images taken at high ISO numbers. As of this writing, only digital single lens reflex cameras offer better high ISO performance.

With the recent introduction of the 12 megapixel Fujifilm F50, many of us are wondering if the days of the Super CCD's class-leading status are over [Read why]. If so, the hope is that another manufacturer will pick up the slack.

As a person who prefers using advanced digital cameras, I find the F20 a bit too plain. Yet each time I take a photo in low light, I stand in awe of the images it produces. They are far better than any compact digital camera I've used or owned, with or without using the flash.  

Some Super CCD cameras have be criticized for taking outside photos that are not up to par with other compact digital cameras. That has not been my experience if a photo is exposed correctly. Some of the exposure tips are given elsewhere in this blog.

The F20 is a great little camera, particularly for those who take a lot of inside and low light photos, where the speed of the camera is not crucial.
