LCDs that twist and tilt
Most owners of digital cameras with a twist-and-tilt LCDs would never buy another camera without one. Why? Because tilt and twist LCDs allow shooting from difficult angles and unusual vantage points. They also provide maximum protection to the LCD by twisting it closed.
Advantages of an adjustable LCD:
- Shoot with camera held over head (eg. take photos in a crowd by shooting over heads of people in front of you).
- Shoot with camera at waist, hip or knee level to take inconspicuous candid photos.
- With the camera facing towards you and the LCD twisted in the same direction as the lens, it is easier to frame self portraits and group shots with you in them. You'll need to use the built-in self timer.
- Take close-ups and macro shots from a variety of angles that would be otherwise impossible, or difficult without a tripod.
- Hold the camera against a wall to keep it steady and still be able to view the screen to frame a shot.
- Twist the screen to a different angle to reduce glare when lighting is bright.
- Take pictures around corners.
- Access camera controls when you play back images. Set the camera on a table and aim the screen towards you for viewing.
- Take photos from awkward positions and unusual perspectives by changing the position of the screen.
