LCDs and sunglasses

If the LCD monitor all of a sudden becomes dark whenever you turn your digital camera on its side when taking photos outside, take off your polarized sunglasses!

LCD's work by polarizing light. When a camera is turned at a 90 degree angle, it changes the polarization of the light emitted by the LCD. Polarized sunglasses will block the light.

The only solution is to take off your sunglasses.

By the way:

Polarized sunglasses will also cause problems when viewing LCDs on items such as those found on dashboards and ATM machines When viewed from a certain angle, the displays will become invisible.
