The D3100 is a newer DSLR by two years, so it may have some refinements and features that you're interested in such as improved HD video and focus while shooting video. If you're able, try to hold both in your hands before buying to check the ergonomics, LCD screens, viewfinder and other features.Honestly, it's almost impossible to say which camera is "better." All DSLRs made in the last could of years are good, and each has strong and weak points. When deciding between cameras, I look for one with the features I'll use most.
