Digital camera upgrade programs

If your digital camera is beyond repair, or too expensive to repair, you may want to call the manufacturer to find out if they have an upgrade program.

Manufacturers that offer such programs let you exchange your old camera for a factory refurbished model. Refurbished cameras are those returned to the store to the manufacture, which are inspected, fixed if need be and then recertified. Some cameras are unused or hardly used at all.

The cost of buying a refurbished camera is often less than the cost of repair. It is certainly less expensive than buying a new model.

Typically you must mail in your camera to the manufacturer for the exchange. Refurbished digital cameras sold under an upgrade program often come with a short but full warranty.

Before buying a specific brand digital camera, call the manufacturer to see if they offer such a program. You may never use it but it's nice to know it's available if needed.
