Your camera or camcorder may qualify for free repair

October 17, 2005 - Several digital camera service advisories were announced recently. If your digital camera or camcorder is affected it will be repaired at no charge even if the original warranty has expired.

Many, but not all, problems relate to defective CCDs (sensors). Affected cameras may produce poor images, errors or have other quirks including, but not limited to, the following:

  • images may have a strong color tint, such as a purplish cast
  • images may be completely black
  • images may not appear at all
  • multi-colored distortions or otherwise distorted images
  • camera has exposure and auto focus errors
  • camera may completely lock up

The following companies issued Service Advisories:*

Only a small number of cameras seem to be affected. If you suspect yours is one of them, visit the manufacturer's website to learn if your model qualifies for repair, then contact their technical support team in your country for the steps to take.

NOTE: Digicamhelp lists service advisory information as we become aware of it. However, for complete, up-to-date information about any and all service advisories for a particular digital camera or product, site visitors should visit the manufacturer's website.
