Gil Tuzon started in photography about 25 years ago mainly to supplement his oil and watercolor painting as a way to document visions seen outside and to use the photos for quick reference. As marriage and family competed for time and attention, he went from 35mm Single Lens Reflex photography to point-and-shoot. At the time, he concentrated mostly on taking photos of flowers, landscape and people.

In 2000, with the digital medium gaining ground, Gil's passion for nature shots was rekindled. He upgraded to the long 12X stabilized zoom of the Panasonic FZ10 digital camera and started his birding adventures. He then upgraded to the Panasonic FZ20. Gil has also worked with the Canon Digital Rebel XT with the Tamron 28-300 XR Di LD lens, and has used the Panasonic FZ5.

The macro shots in Gil's photo galleries were done mostly with the stacked Nikon 4T and 6T close-up lenses. For the bird photos, many of them were taken using a digital zoom. Most say that digital zooming is not good but Gil believes he gets a better look at his subjects in the electronic viewfinder using the digital zoom. He uses the digital zoom at about half of its stated capability so he can better react to the behavior of his subjects. Gil says, "The more I can interact with my bird subjects in real time with appropriate framing and composition through digital zooming, the more I will be outside and enjoy nature. I am not a slave of my monitor and endless post processing." :~)
